Vokabero

Vokabero is an online trainer for the school languages English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Latin. Learning happens in seasons made of stories – by reading, translating and practising vocabulary. The first season is for English in year 10 of the Bavarian Mittelschule (a secondary school type), known as M10. Parents, teachers and schools follow the learning progress and will soon be able to upload their own seasons, also in the other learning languages. Vokabero complements lessons and the textbook; it does not replace them.

Vokabero: What Vokabero is

Vokabero is a trainer for the languages you learn at school: English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Latin. Learning happens in seasons. A season bundles stories for one learning language, school type and year; each story brings new vocabulary in a situation that is easy to remember.

The first season is for English in year 10 of the Bavarian Mittelschule (M10): the fictional football team Riverside United goes through a year of defeats, arguments and a shared project. Vocabulary and phrases are aligned with the Bavarian LehrplanPLUS.

How many seasons there are today for each learning language is listed in the key facts. Soon parents, teachers and schools will be able to upload their own texts and vocabulary lists – also in learning languages that have no season here yet. For lessons and exams, the school’s requirements and the official materials remain authoritative.

Vokabero: How learning works

Each season combines several approaches to the same content. Reading, translating and vocabulary exercises are part of every learning language; the English season also adds speaking, grammar, fixed phrases and spaced review:

  • Read a story in the learning language and discover words in complete sentences
  • Translate the story yourself and compare it with the feedback
  • In the English season, repeat sentences out loud; both British and American pronunciation count
  • In the English season, review at growing intervals: after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days
  • Feedback is a learning aid and can be wrong; a rating in the app is not a school grade

Vokabero: Made & hosted in Europe

Vokabero is developed in Munich and runs on servers in Germany. Where an equivalent European service exists, we use it: email delivery from France, and AI evaluation optionally via Mistral from Paris with processing in the EU.

The table lists every service involved – including those outside the EU – and which user data it receives.

For the AI marking you choose between a European and a US provider:

  • Mistral AI from Europe: based in Paris, France. Vokabero uses the EU endpoint, so the exercise content is processed in the EU.
  • OpenAI from the USA: a US provider based in the USA. The exercise content then goes to a provider outside the EU.
  • Credits: Mistral needs fewer credits for most exercises, so the included credits go about 1.9 times as far as with OpenAI.
  • Who chooses: parents for their family account, teachers for their classes and the school centrally for the school account. For photos and speaking exercises, authorised parents and teachers can set a different provider per child.
  • Where to switch: in your Profile under “Plan, AI & Credits”. Schools set the provider in the “School” area under “Binding school AI settings”.
  • In both cases Vokabero adds no names, email addresses or account data. Only the exercise content is sent – texts, photos and voice recordings – which may itself contain personal details.
